[Each week, since the beginning of the pandemic, I have been sharing a poem a day featuring a different short form. You can learn more about these forms here. After the poems you will find some poetry recommendations.]
Some Poetry recommendations:
Poetry is one of my favourite poetry journals. I have a lot of back issues. Though it’s become too expensive for me. It was founded in 1912 and has been a leader in poetry publishing ever since. There are several fine Canadian poetry journals and i read an assortment. But none quite compare to Poetry, I’m sad to say. And they have a great website (published by Poetry Foundation) which I highly recommend.
My recommendation today is for one of their “collections” (they have 88 at the moment). The one that caught my attention a few weeks ago is Poems of Hope and Resilience which includes 49 poems. I think I stumbled across this collection when looking for an online version of Marge Piercy’s “To Be of Use,” a favourite of mine since i read it in the early 80s.
Also, because I think we should all be keeping Gaza in our hearts and minds every day, you will also find a fine selection of poems by Mahmoud Darwish. Also, check this out by Naomi Shihab Nye: A Palestinian Might Say.
