When I haven’t been toiling over marking papers, I’ve been taking it far too much news of the accelerating chaos all around us. I oscillate between buddhist (buddh-ish, really) equanimity and the image of an Seinfeld’s George Costanza apoplectically yelling, “Serenity now! Serenity now!” The past two weeks have not been conducive to my writing - for neither substack nor dissertation. But I can feel the energy shifting now that classes are done and I can pace my marking for the next two weeks to get that work done, enjoy the blooms of spring (our crocuses are up, our daffodils and tulips and silla are all still shoots, the cardinals are singing their song), enjoy walking Layla, and just take better care of myself and Taliesen (which mostly means more physical exercise for me). I have a huge list of notes about popular education and this current moment in which we find ourselves which I am turning into substack posts as we speak. Meanwhile, if you are in the part of the world that is experiencing Spring, I wish you well in taking into your body and soul this moment of nature’s renewal and waking.
